Estate Agency – Welcome To Our First Blog of 2016

Happy New Year and welcome to our first Blog of 2016.  We’ll be getting in touch every quarter this year, with news, views and any other info you may find useful, all to keep you up-to-date with what’s happening in the property market and how it affects you, whether you are buying or selling your property.

One thing’s for sure, as we enter 2016, the housing market faces a couple of more issues than just rising or falling prices.

For starters, the recent decision by the US Central Bank to raise interest rates for the first time since 2006, has paved the way for the Bank of England to follow suit. Unfortunately it will just be a case of waiting to see what the Bank of England decides to do.

In addition, Scotland’s Finance Minister John Swinney has announced that from 1st April this year, an additional 3% charge will be levied on top of the current Land & Buildings Transaction Tax for second homes or buy-to-let properties of £40,000 or more. This could have serious implications for Argyll & Lochaber – traditionally such popular areas for those seeking a holiday or second home. We have already seen a flux of viewing and property details requests with purchasers trying to make their move before that April deadline…

Whether you are wishing to sell, or are looking for your dream property, please give us a call or even better, come in to see us in our town centre office in Oban or flagship head office in Fort William for friendly, professional advice. We appreciate that people still like face-to-face contact and the chance to have a down-to-earth discussion about their requirements. In addition, we are also Solicitors, so can offer you a full range of legal advice too, from the conveyancing of your property to Family Law, all under one roof.

We are passionate about the area in which we live and pride ourselves on our excellent sales rate and customer service, so just get in touch. Hope to hear from you soon.

We’ll be back in touch with more news in the Spring!
